What is the expiry date on coffee?Updated 22 days ago
On the back of our coffee bags, embossed at the top, you’ll find the lot number and the best before date.
Lot number and best before date on the back of a coffee bag
Lot number
The lot number comes first. It consists of 4 digits and represents the coffee’s packaging date. Here’s how to read it:
- The first 2 digits indicate the packaging week (starting from the first week of the year).
- The 3rd digit indicates the year.
- The 4th digit indicates the day of the week the bag was packaged, from Monday (1) to Friday (5).
In the example above, the lot number 3055 corresponds to July 25, 2025, meaning the 30th week (30) of the year 2025 (5), on a Friday (5).
Best before date
The best before date is shown by the 6 digits following “EXP”, in the format YY/MM/DD.
In the example above, the code 260725 corresponds to July 25, 2026.
Note that coffee does not have an expiration date. We simply recommend consuming it before the best before date to ensure optimal freshness.
